Put me in coach, I’m ready to plow

Put me in coach, I’m ready to plow

I can only imagine that by now, the Westminster street department or the Carroll County roads department wants me to lend a hand with keeping the roads clear of snow.

So I am warming-up this handy piece of equipment that I borrowed from the Georgia Department of Transportation, to get ready to go help – as soon as I am called into service…

When I was younger I hated plowing snow. It was monotonous and really-really hard. Not to be overlooked is that I hate being cold.

Of course today the men and women plowing snow have much better equipment. Much of the plow-controls resembles a joy-stick used for video games. But it is still hard work, under difficult circumstances – made worse by idiot drivers making a bad situation much worse.

Back in the day, right after the internal combustion engine was invented; I had levers and pedals and lots of manual controls. And when I needed to change the direction of the plow – or raise the plow; I really did for real need to get out of the truck and pull frozen ice-covered pins and manually adjust the plow and re-install the pins.

Let’s not overlook hitting a bump in the road with the old plows – it would jar your teeth out of place.

Anyway, be safe out there and say a prayer for our emergency responders, police, firefighters, EMS personnel and the various local municipal, county, and state, street and roads departments that are out there in this mess trying to keep the roads open and safe.
