Colonial Lock and Key Service Westminster Md

Colonial Lock and Key Service Westminster Md

May 13, 2015 Kevin E. Dayhoff

It has been ages since I needed to have some keys made.

I understand that if you go to the mega-stores that put all the local hardware – and lumber stores out of business; self-service make-your-own-keys kiosks have replaced real live human beings - actual locksmiths that know the business. I always prefer to do business with a real-live person. What do I know about keys?

I guess that’s okay to make your keys if making your own keys is on your top-ten bucket list of things to do before you die. And actually – now that you mention it – making keys is not on my list.

I have firm belief that these mega-stores have everything in the world under one roof. And that is fine, well and good; if you know what to do with a whatchamacallit once you purchase it. I often do not.

I remember years ago I used to go to Mr. Wardenfelt, a locksmith up on Pennsylvania Avenue. He’s been gone for decades – and the store is gone too.

I used to go to Hanks across the street from Harry’s Man Street Grille on West Main Street in Westminster – but Hank died in a tragic accident last winter.

The keys I needed to have copied were not your ordinary keys. I was at a loss. Then I remembered years ago, I used to go to Colonial Lock at the east end of Westminster.

I stopped by Colonial Lock Service on East Main Street and found Yvonne and Gary Gosnell to be the nicest folks. I got my keys made – and took them home and they actually worked well.

I always believe that it is not good enough to be the best – you have to be nice. The Gosnells were not only human – and good at what they do… They were nice.
