Today's sermon, Sun. June 19, 2016, by Pastor Kevin Clementson at Grace Lutheran Church, taken from the dark tale from Luke Chap 8, verses 26-39; the story of the demons cast out by Jesus, from a man named Legion.

He told a story of redemption for an individual in his hometown who had been saved from the ravages of alcoholism.

Pastor Martha Clementson shared a children's sermon at services at Grace Lutheran Church this morning in Westminster, June 12, 2016.

The gospel message this morning, 2 Samuel 11: 26- 12: 10, 13-15; and Luke 7: 36 – 8:3 appears to have been torn from a tawdry realty talk show. Pastor Martha did a great job of bringing it to life, making sense of it and making it relevant today. She taught us lessons that we can use in the coming weeks and months. And Galatians 2: 15-21, the third gospel lesson at services this morning; glued it all together.

The story behind the Sacramento Rte 50 Ocean City signs

Two Coasts, Two Cities, Two Signs: The Story Behind The ‘Ocean City MD 3073’ Sign - Melody Stone, Friday, May 6, 2016 | Sacramento, CA http://www.capradio.org/72367

Motorists traveling on 50 East in Sacramento may be familiar with this perfectly normal-looking mileage sign — on first glance, it’s like every other mileage sign along California highways listing the cities you’ll be passing with the number of miles to go.

But on second glance, this sign gives pause — Placerville is about an hour away, and South Lake Tahoe double that, depending on traffic. But why does far-off Ocean City, Maryland merit a mention?

The simple fact is that US 50 paves 3,000-plus miles from Ocean City, Maryland to Sacramento, California, but there’s more to the story.

In the 1980s John R. Cropper, Jr. worked as the head of statewide highway maintenance for Caltrans. Cropper, now 92, was the man who instigated the sign listing Ocean City, MD as 3073 down the road.

Search continues for Eldersburg man missing after this fishing boat capsized in the Gulf of Mexico ... https://www.yahoo.com/news/florida-crews-search-gulf-mexico-missing-boater-150843637.html?ref=gs

CEDAR KEY, Fla. (AP) — A search continues for a Maryland man whose boat capsized in the Gulf of Mexico off Cedar Key, Florida.

The Gainesville Sun (http://bit.ly/1sO0nAX) reports that Gilbert Valdes was on a 23-foot boat with his brother and another man when they capsized in a fast-approaching storm on Friday. All three were wearing life jackets.

On Saturday, U.S. Coast Guard crews found 50-year-old Garrick Valdes of Locust Grove, Virginia, and Bruce Smith of Alachua, Florida. They had managed to remain with the boat, but Gilbert Valdes could not.

The Coast Guard handed leadership of the search to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which is keeping up the search with help from the Levy County Sheriff's Office.

Wed. May 25, 2016 On the scene of a single vehicle tractor and trailer accident on Rte. 31 west of Westminster

Wed. May 25, 2016 - On the scene of a single vehicle tractor and trailer accident on Rte. 31 west of Westminster half-way between Windsor Drive and Tahoma Farm Road. http://kevindayhoff.blogspot.com/2016/05/wed-may-25-2016-on-scene-of-single.html

The first call came in for [Sta 3 Fire] at 01:02 am CT: VC RESCUE RT 31 / WINDSOR DR BOX: 0323 DUE: X37 E31 RS6. Units from the New Windsor, and Westminster Vol. Fire Departments, Maryland State Police, MDE, SHA, and Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded.

Upon arrival Westminster first responders discovered a single vehicle truck accident. A cement hauler was northbound when it left the road for unknown reasons. Although the driver walked-away from the accident and only sustained non-life threatening injuries, the driver was transported to Carroll Hospital for treatment and observation.

Firefighters remained on the scene until approximately 2:20 am. However heavy-wreckers remained several more hours removing the tractor and trailer from the scene of the accident. Rte. 31 remained closed for almost 4 hours.

The only reported injury was to the driver. There were no reports of any injuries among the first responders.

The accident remains under investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

Jon Kelvey Carroll County Times: Nonprofit Center celebrates 10 years of incubating social good http://www.carrollcountytimes.com/news/local/ph-cc-nonprofit-center-20160519-story.html

May 19, 2016

Incubators may be en vogue in the entrepreneurial tech world of Silicon Valley today, but when it comes to incubating nonprofits and building social capital, Westminster has been a leader since 2006, the year the Carroll County Nonprofit Center was born.

On Wednesday afternoon, more than 100 people filled a large conference room at the center's Clifton Boulevard location to celebrate a decade of its providing low cost, no rent homes for nonprofit organizations focused on helping the people of Carroll County.

"We've taken a lot of nonprofits from basements of churches, shopping centers, out of their homes," said Nonprofit Center Director Mark Krider in an interview. "This gives them stability, it gives them an address, it gives them a place to volunteer. People don't want to volunteer in somebody's home, or a basement of a church."

Standing at the podium Wednesday, Krider ran down some of the impressive statistics associated with 10 years of giving nonprofits a home: more than 55,000 families helped by agencies housed in the center; more than 148,251 volunteer hours served, a $3.9 million value; and 34 different agencies housed at one time or another. Current tenants include Habitat for Humanity; the Marriage and Relationship Education Center; and Head Start/Catholic Charities, which, Krider noted, has enrolled almost 2,000 children since becoming one of the first tenants in 2006.
