Westminster Maryland Miracle on Main Street Holiday Parade cancelled.

Friday evening, November 23, 2018

The annual Westminster Miracle on Main Street Holiday Parade hosted by City of Westminster Recreation & Parks Department has been cancelled.

The annual tree lighting will still occur at 6 PM in Locust Lane

The Miracle on Main Street parade scheduled for Saturday, November 24th, 2018 in Westminster has been cancelled. Unfortunately due to the worsening forecast we have cancelled the Miracle on Main Street Parade.

There is no rain date for this parade.

The Jingle Bell Run will have a modified run route at 4:55 PM.

The annual tree lighting will still occur at 6 PM in Locust Lane, with a modified ceremony. Right after the tree is lit for the season join us at the Westminster Library for free crafts & games and a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

According to the US National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, “The Winter Weather Advisory has been expanded further east to include most areas west of I-95. Rain will affect the region starting early Sat. Temps will be cold enough for areas west of the I-95 corridor to experience wintry precipitation which may cause travel difficulties.”

Carroll County Times Editorial: Thumbs up for Troopers Caring for Kids

http://kevindayhoffwestgov-net.blogspot.com/2015/12/carroll-county-times-editorial-thumbs.html

December 25, 2016

Thumbs up: More than 100 children from about 40 families visited with Santa and received gifts during the Troopers of Carroll County Caring for Kids's Christmas for Kids event, on Dec. 20. Tina Becker, a retired Maryland State Trooper who has been organizing the event for the past 19 years, said the group received children's wish lists from Christian charity The Shepherd's Staff. The group also partnered with Westminster's Texas Roadhouse to set up a candy cane tree that allowed the restaurants' patrons to fulfill the lists. Becker said the group supplemented some of the lists and also gave away four bicycles. Later in the day, Santa visited the Sykesville Town House during the town's first Toy-Palooza. Sponsored by members of the Sykesville Main Street Association, 14 children received at least three presents from their Salvation Army wish lists. Sykesville Main Street merchants and IMPAQ International raised nearly $4,000 to fulfill the children's wish lists.

Human Services Program in Carroll County MD announces end to annual holiday progam

Human Services Program in Carroll County MD announces end to annual holiday progam

Neighbors In Need Year Round

In 2012, HSP transitioned our traditional holiday giving program into an expanded format titled Neighbors in Need Year Round (NINYR). NINYR has mobilized the generosity of our community to meet the critical needs our low-income and at-risk neighbors face every day, in every season...housing, essential utilities, help working toward financial stability, and self-sufficiency.

Holiday Program of Neighbors in Need Year Round

Press Release
HSP ANNOUNCES END TO HOLIDAY PROGRAM
Neighbors in Need Year Round will Continue; Holiday Program Ends Following this Season
Westminster, MD - As Carroll County's Community Action Agency, Human Services Programs of Carroll County, Inc. (HSP) is committed to improving the quality of life quality of at-risk and low-income Carroll County residents, by assisting with basic needs, advocacy and linkages to resources to enhance life skills.
As part of its outreach, in prior years, HSP's Neighbors in Need program matched families with adopters and provided a holiday shop filled with gifts and household goods for families not adopted by volunteers.
In 2012, HSP expanded the program to create "Neighbors in Need Year Round", to deliver vital resources and services not only during the holidays but throughout the entire year.
Following a critical analysis and evaluation of available resources, HSP has determined that Neighbors In Need Year Round will continue, but the holiday component will end after this season.
"This was a very difficult but necessary decision for our agency and our Board," explained Cindy Parr, HSP Executive Director. "The Holiday Program has served thousands of families for many years, but the continuous needs of our low-income and at-risk families, all year long, must be the priority for our agency."
This year, for the last time, HSP will provide the holiday component of Neighbors in Need Year Round in a modified version. HSP will again seek benefactors to adopt families for the holidays, which is an essential component of success for the program. Families not adopted, and who formerly visited the Holiday Shop, will instead pick up a package of gifts at a distribution center. Inventory stored from prior years will be assigned and distributed to families who are not adopted. Families will receive a letter with information stating the date, time and location for their gift bag pick-up.
"Our modified version will still provide our clients with gifts and goods," said Parr. "Volunteers are still greatly needed to assist us in this modified effort." Volunteer opportunities will be listed as a link on the HSP website.
Donations received from the Carroll County Times-sponsored "Holiday Hope" program will continue to be used for HSP's Neighbors In Need Year Round initiative. Members of the community who have previously collected gifts for the Holiday Shop should plan to provide these gifts to other organizations, or volunteer through HSP to adopt one or more families.
"Our mission is to provide a "hand up" for those who are struggling to maintain or achieve self- sufficiency," said Parr. "We believe that our limited resources, both financial and man-power, will be better used by focusing on our year-round assistance to more than 12,000 at risk residents."

“Miracle on Main Street” Returns to Downtown Westminster on November 26th
Maryland’s Largest On-Street Holiday Electric Light Parade Kicks Off at 5:00 p.m.

On November 26th, Santa Claus is coming to Downtown Westminster once again in a big way with the “Miracle on Main Street” Holiday Event! Sponsored by the City of Westminster and the Downtown Westminster Main Street Program, Westminster’s 3rd Annual Holiday Electric Parade kicks off at 5:00 p.m. TheHoliday Electric Parade, which is Maryland’s Largest On-Street Holiday Electric Light Parade, follows Westminster’s traditional parade route of Pennsylvania Avenue and Main Street to Longwell Avenue. There will be dozens of lighted floats (with more than 2,000 lights on each), traditional floats, marching bands, marching units, horses, exotic cars & vehicles and, of course, the big guy himself - Santa Claus - passing in review through Historic Downtown Westminster.

Immediately following the parade, the City’s annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place on Locust Lane. Join Mayor Kevin R. Utz, Santa and other City Officials, along with all of the youngsters in attendance, as they light the holiday tree and sing carols to the music of the Westminster Municipal Band. “It’s always a wonderful feeling to see the twinkle in the kids’ eyes, as they watch the parade and the lighting of the holiday tree in awe,” notes Mayor Kevin R. Utz.

After the tree is lit, Santa and the kids will head up to the Westminster Family Fitness Center, 11 Longwell Avenue, for Santa’s Treat for Kids. This children’s event, which runs from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., is free and will feature games, crafts, activities, prizes and an opportunity to chat with Santa Claus.

If you come to the downtown area early, the Carroll Arts Center, 91 West Main Street, kicks off their holiday programs with the musical “Hans Brinker & the Silver Skates” at 3:00 p.m., as a prelude to the “Miracle on Main Street” Holiday Event activities. Tickets for the musical are $9.00 for adults and $6.00 for Arts Council members, students 18 years & under and seniors 60 years & over. For more information or to reserve tickets in advance, call (410) 848-7272.

Of course, great food, drink and shopping can be discovered downtown throughout the day where you also can personally celebrate Small Business Saturday, a nationally proclaimed event. If you do not get into the holiday spirit after such an action-packed day in Downtown Westminster, your last name must be Scrooge!
