Baugher’s Red Cross Hurricane Relief Oct 26, 2004

Baugher’s Restaurant in Westminster and Caroline Babylon raise money for Red Cross Hurricane relief

On October 26, 2004 Caroline Babylon teamed-up with Baugher’s restaurant and John Jordan, then the Baugher's manager, to raise money for the Red Cross for hurricane relief. My wife is awesome. Just saying.

“Recently Baugher's Restaurant in Westminster helped raise money for American Red Cross Hurricane Disaster relief. Pictured above are Baugher's Manager John Jordan giving American Red Cross DAT Member Caroline Babylon the generous donations collected by the restaurant. These contributions will help those whose lives were devastated by the recent Florida hurricanes. Picture Date: October 26th, 2004”

It would not be odd to see a farmer, a cow, a horse, a deer, corn stalks or a bird in Carroll County — just maybe not all in a corn field at one time.

A depiction of all these figures, meant to symbolize the many creatures that consume corn, can be found in a corn field near the Carroll County Agriculture Center and Shipley Arena in Westminster. The center used the help of GPS technology to mow the figures, which encompass roughly three miles, into the field as the route for their fourth annual corn maze.

“It’s gone well,” said agriculture center board member Caroline Babylon, of the corn maze over the years. “It’s a major fundraiser for us.”"

Some state dollars are on the way to help pay for capital improvements in Carroll.

The General Assembly amended the state’s Capital Budget Bill to include $150,000 for the Carroll County Agriculture Center.

Sen. Larry Haines, R-District 5, said that he was happy the ag center is receiving state funding this year.

Both the House and Senate each funded $7.5 million in legislative projects for the 2010 session.

According to a list of bond bills being funded, the General Assembly reviewed more than $35 million in requests.

The bond money will be used on capital improvements at the agricultural center, said Caroline Babylon, the center’s treasurer. However, the specific uses haven’t yet been decided by the center’s board, she said.

Carroll Hospital Center also was awarded $700,000 to help pay for creating extra space for Access Carroll on its campus. However, these funds were included in Gov. Martin O’Malley’s capital budget and were not considered a legislative project, said Sen. David Brinkley, R-District 4.

Erica Kritt, Times Staff Writer

The 2010 Carroll Horse Expo runs the gamut, from not-yet riders to people who have had horses all their lives.

"It's the whole range of the horse world," said Caroline Babylon, an Ag board member.

Saturday was the first day of the second annual Carroll Horse Expo at the Carroll County Agriculture Center in Westminster. The event continues today.

Babylon said there were people taking advantage of the lectures and demonstrations and parents who brought their children just to see some horses.
