The fire marshal said there was $100,000 in damage to the four-story apartment building in Carroll County.

UNION BRIDGE, MD — One firefighter was injured and an apartment building was damaged when fire broke out in Union Bridge on Tuesday, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Someone who lived in the four-story apartment building in the unit block of South Main Street reported the blaze at 11:30 p.m.

Approximately 45 firefighters, including crews from the Union Bridge Fire Company, responded and brought the one-alarm blaze under control within a little more than half an hour, according to the fire marshal.

Patch Westminster Kevin Earl Dayhoff



Carroll County history and community reporter Kevin E. Dayhoff has been a freelance writer and artist since 1971.

In addition to Westminster Patch, he currently contributes to several publications, including several online media sites. 

In 2009 he won a Maryland Delaware DC Press Association award for editorial critical thinking for an investigation into a racial incident involving a Carroll County school board member. In 2006, he was recognized by George Washington University for authoring one of the top 12 Maryland and Virginia political websites.

He served as the mayor of Westminster from 2001 to 2005 and as a Westminster city councilman from 1999 to 2001. He was a self-employed nursery stock farmer, landscape designer, property management consultant, and freelance technical writer from 1974 to 1999. He served as a statewide elected member of the Maryland Municipal League Board of Directors 2000 to 2005.

He is currently a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, Capitol Beat - Association of Capitol Reporters and Editors, a Silver Life member of the NAACP, and serves on the executive board of the Carroll County NAACP.

Kevin Dayhoff has served as the chaplain of the Westminster Fire Engine and Hose Co. No. 1 and the Maryland Troopers Association Lodge #20, since January 1, 2011. He also serves as a member of the church council at Grace Lutheran Church in Westminster and the historic Westminster Cemetery Board of Managers since September 29, 2011

It is believed that several branches of his family have believed in what we now know as Carroll County since the 1600s.

Lyndi Steward McNulty, a prize winning artist, has been an artist since she was four years old. Her style has been the same since she began to paint in high school. Bright colors and abstract design elements are typical of her work.

She is most influenced by Theophile Steinlen, Alphonse Mucha, Theberge and Franz Marc.  Her favorite subjects are animals and local farm scenes in Carroll County, Maryland.

McNulty has studied fine art at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Middle Tennessee State University, and Southwest Craft Center in San Antonio, Texas and the Rochester Institute of Technology.  She holds and M.S. from The Johns Hopkins University and an M.L.S. from the University of Oklahoma.

She has also done design work professionally, both as an airbrush artist and as a commercial design artist.  She has worked as a museum curator, not only curating the collection, but also designing and installing the exhibits for three museums.

McNulty has owned Gizmos Art for nearly 30 years, a business started by her mother Betty McNulty, where she does custom framing and the restoration of paintings, paper, photographs, and frames and appraisals of all kinds.

McNulty is a member of the Art Deco Society of Washington D.C.; the Baltimore Museum of Art, The New England Appraisers Association and the Carroll County Arts Council.  She may be reached at www.gizmosart.com and 410-876-7939.
