Our prayers go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of Brenda Barber.

April 30, 2017

Our prayers go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of Brenda Barber this morning. Caroline and I awakened to the unbelievable horrible heartbreaking news that our dear friend and colleague, Brenda died in the traffic accident over in New Windsor last night.

Her untimely death is a huge loss to the Sam's Creek 4-H Club, the Carroll County agriculture and the 4-H community. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers go out to her husband Rick.

Although the agriculture community is blessed with many great leaders; wise leadership of the caliber of Rick and Brenda is increasingly rare and the loss of Brenda is a terrible blow to the greater Carroll County community. Brenda is held in very high regard in the Ag community. The Carroll agriculture community is a tight, close-knit community; this morning we all feel a dreadful sense of loss. She touched so many lives.

Let us pray: O god of grace and glory, we remember before you today our sister Brenda.

We thank you for giving her to us to know and to love as a companion in our pilgrimage on earth and our service to our community.

In your boundless compassion, console us who still mourn.

Give us faith to see that death has been swallowed up in the victory of our Lord, so that we may live in confidence and hope until, by your call, we are gathered to our heavenly home in the company of all your saints; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

“We do not live to ourselves, and we do not die to ourselves. If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord, so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.” (Romans 14:7-8)

Amen

According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office report: “On 04/29/17, at approximately 1621hours, Carroll County Emergency Communications dispatched a two vehicle personal injury collision on New Windsor Rd in the 1400 Block, New Windsor, MD 21776.

Sheriff Deputies along with Fire/Rescue personnel from the New Windsor and Mount Airy Fire Departments responded.

Upon deputies arrival, they observed a gray Ford Focus resting on the eastbound grassy shoulder facing west with heavy front end damage.

Resting in the westbound grassy shoulder was a red Toyota Tundra facing south with heavy front end damage.

Preliminary investigation revealed the Ford Focus was traveling eastbound on New Windsor Rd failed to drive right of center crossing over the double yellow lane divider into the westbound travel lane at a high rate of speed striking the Toyota head on who was traveling westbound.

The Ford and Toyota were each occupied by the driver only. The driver of the Ford a 32 year old male was pronounced deceased at the scene by New Windsor Fire personnel. The driver of the Toyota a 57 year old female was transported to Carroll Hospital Center where she was pronounced deceased

Hats off to these community leaders for their thoughtfulness. Carroll County always comes together and we are there for one another.

Saturday evening candle light vigil Feb. 20, 2016 6 pm. At JeannieBird Baking Company, 42 West Main Street, Westminster, MD

I'll post a few pictures from the event later.

Opening words by Don West

Song by Dean Camlin

Song by Eddie Brooks – I’ll fly away.

"I'll Fly Away"

Some bright morning when this life is over
I'll fly away
To that home on Gods celestial shore
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away in the morning
When I die hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away

When the shadows of this life have gone
I'll fly away
Like a bird from these prison walls I'll fly
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away in the morning
When I die hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away

Oh how glad and happy when we meet
I'll fly away
No more cold iron shackles on my feet
I'll fly away

I'll fly away oh glory
I'll fly away in the morning
When I die hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away

I'll fly away oh glory
I'll fly away in the morning
When I die hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away

Just a few more weary days and then
I'll fly away
To a land where joys will never end
I'll fly away

I'll fly away oh glory
I'll fly away in the morning
When I die hallelujah by and by
I'll fly away
I'll fly away

The Westminster Fire Co extends its sympathy to the family of Jeannie Vogel of JeannieBird Baking Co who died in today’s traffic accident.

Prayer by Westminster Fire Dept. Chaplain

Ms. Vogel was a lovely person who steadfastly supported the Westminster community and the Westminster Fire Department. We lift Jeannie and her family, co-workers, and friends into our hearts and pray for comfort and healing at this terrible time. She will be greatly missed.

On behalf of the men and woman of the Westminster Volunteer Fire Department

The Westminster Fire Engine and Hose Company No.1 extends its sympathy to the family and loved ones of Jeannie Vogel of the JeannieBird Baking Co., our neighbor on Main St in Westminster, who died in yesterday’s traffic accident.

O god of grace and glory, we remember before you today our sister Jeannie Vogel

We thank you for giving her to us to know and to love as a companion in our pilgrimage on earth and our service to our community.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this very difficult time.

Those we love don't go away. They walk beside us every day, Unseen, unheard, but always near, Still loved, still missed and very dear.

May memories of happy times sustain us, the support of family and friends comfort us, and may God's love embrace you and your family and bring you peace.

In your boundless compassion, console us who still mourn.

Give us faith to see that death has been swallowed up in the victory of our Lord, so that we may live in confidence and hope until, by your call, we are gathered to our heavenly home in the company of all your saints.

We also say a prayer for the firefighters, EMS personnel, state highway workers, and police officers who left their homes in the middle of night to respond to this terrible accident. They fought the fire, freezing temperatures, ice, and multiple dangers of the accident this morning at Rte. 27 and Kate Wagner Road.

God of earth and air, water and fire, height and depth, we pray for those who work in danger,

Who rush in to bring hope and help and comfort when others flee to safety,

Whose mission is to seek and save, serve and protect, and whose presence embodies the protection of the Good Shepherd.

Give them caution and concern for one another, so that in safety they may do what must be done, under your watchful eye.

Support them in their courage and dedication that they may continue to save lives, ease pain, and mend the torn fabric of lives and social order. Amen.

Police believe owner of JeannieBird bakery killed in Route 27 crash

Police believe the owner of a popular Westminster bakery and café was killed in fiery traffic crash involving a tractor trailer on Route 27 early Friday morning.

Because of the severity of the injuries, Maryland State Police investigators were unable to positively confirm the identification of the deceased victim prior to autopsy results from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. However, based on evidence retrieved from the scene of the crash, in addition to information received from family members, investigators believe the victim was Jeannie Vogel.

Vogel, 53, co-owned JeannieBird Baking Company on Main Street in Westminster. The crash occurred shortly after 4 a.m. when the tractor-trailer struck the vehicle Vogel was driving, causing both vehicles to catch fire…

Left lane road hogs are a safety hazard on the roads

This is a huge issue when driving on Route 140 in Carroll County. The folks that hog-up the left lane are either oblivious or self-important idiots.

If there is someone behind you – or better yet, if there is a long line of cars following you; and no one in front of you. Then you are a safety problem. Get out of the left lane.

Stay in the right lane unless you are going to pass or you are about to make a left-hand turn… If you do not understand this, then get off the road. You are danger to yourselves and everyone else on the road.

Left lane road hogs are a safety hazard on the roads…

Carroll County Sheriff's Office: “Strikeforce nabs Intoxicated Drivers during first weekend of patrols”

Strikeforce nabs Intoxicated Drivers during first weekend of patrols”

Effort part of State’s goal “Toward Zero Deaths” in August

Westminster, Carroll County, Maryland, August 9, 2010 ---- In an effort to reduce the fatalities caused by impaired driving, Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputies began a month long intensive enforcement initiative this weekend, stopping 148 motorists along Carroll roadways for motor vehicle law violations, seven of which resulted in the arrest of impaired drivers. Additional arrests included three suspended drivers, and one motorist who was in possession of personal use quantities of marijuana and associated paraphernalia.

Last year alcohol and drug use were a factor in twenty-nine percent (29%) of fatal collisions in Maryland in spite of law enforcement arresting more than 24,000 impaired drivers. Maryland’s alcohol limit is .08, which can be reached by consuming as little as one drink over a one-hour period. For those under age 21, Maryland’s zero tolerance law requires the arrest for the presence of any alcohol. Through strategic enforcement efforts and promoting awareness about the dangers of impaired driving, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office will work toward reducing the number of alcohol and drug related traffic collisions, injuries and fatalities.

Each weekend during the month of August, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office will join forces with the Maryland office of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and allied law enforcement agencies as part of the “Checkpoint Strikeforce” campaign. The Deputies primary objective will be enforcing those violations indicative of impaired driving while using the opportunity to heighten public awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and send a clear message to violators that impaired driving will not be tolerated.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office encourages people to drink responsibly, and reminds motorists to designate a sober driver before consuming any alcohol, call a taxi or other public transportation, and don’t let others who are impaired take to the road.
