Maryland Special Session: Delegate Ready Fights in Special Session to Encourage Real, Lasting Job Growth

Delegate Ready Fights in Special Session to Encourage Real, Lasting Job Growth

Annapolis – Delegate Justin Ready (R-5A) has introduced two bills in the House of Delegates to address Maryland’s stagnant economy and nation-worst rate of job loss. The bills were introduced by Senator E.J. Pipkin in the State Senate and are part of a “Jobs Package” to encourage private sector business growth in Maryland. “While I do not believe we should be having this special session to address gambling, there is no question that jobs are leaving Maryland. If anything, that’s the “emergency” we should be focused on here,” Delegate Ready said. Both bills are aimed at reducing the 8.25% business tax rate and using additional tax credits to incentivize out of state and international investment into Maryland’s smaller, rural counties. Delegate Ready has brought these bills to the House in an attempt to put light on serious economic issues facing the state.

“Since my first Session in 2011, I have tried to promote and support policies to encourage job growth in Maryland, particularly in the private sector. Governor O’Malley has talked before about Jobs, Jobs, Jobs, but other than occasional bursts of government spending on temporary projects like road construction, his administration has failed to take action,” continued Ready. “This Special Session could be used as a rare opportunity to re-visit and correct our state’s punitive tax and regulatory policies that are suffocating small business.”

In July, the Washington Times reported that Maryland was the worst among the nation for job loss in the first six months of 2012. TheMaryland Gazette has also reported that venture capital in Maryland has plummeted to its lowest levels in sixteen years.

“Right now we are looking at the exact “doomsday” scenario that my Republican colleagues and I have warned about – job loss, and businesses leaving Maryland. Now is the time to choose progress and correct course,” Ready concluded.

Brian Griffiths’ Justin Ready interview May 21 2008

Brian Griffiths’ Justin ready interview May 21 2008

Recently Justin Ready announced that he is running for House of Delegates for Carroll County. On Wednesday, May 21, 2008, Brian Griffiths interviewed Mr. Ready “The Justin Ready Interview”: http://blog.briangriffiths.com/2008/05/justin-ready-interveiw.html

~~~~~~
I had the opportunity to interview via email our new State GOP Executive Director Justin Ready. Here is the full Q&A, and it provides a lot of insight into Justin's view on our current situation here in Maryland, where we go for the rest of 2008, and how our party is preparing for 2010 and beyond.
I greatly thank Justin for taking the time to do this!
* * * * * *
Brian Griffiths: You've been on the job for a couple of weeks now, how are you adjusting to the new position.
Justin Ready: I am adjusting pretty well, I think. Its still a process of learning more about day to day responsibilities and technical "stuff" while also looking to move the Party forward and take the next, crucial steps in fundraising and grassroots development. No matter how busy things get, it is an absolute privilege to wake up every morning and be able to work to advance the Maryland Republican Party.
[…]
BG:. Despite the party registration numbers, Maryland has a very vibrant conservative blogosphere. How do you think that bloggers can help the party, and how will you try to engage them?
JR: The conservative blogosphere in Maryland is doing a wonderful job of getting information out to activists all over Maryland. The commentary and issue spotlighting that happens on the blogs really encourages our elected officials and lets them know that they are not alone in the fight. With the dominant print media in this state being so left of center, it is vital that we have alternative outlets.
My plan is to be sure we are keeping bloggers in the loop with what we want to do message wise, while respecting their autonomy. It means treating bloggers as allies but not expecting them to be lockstep with us all the time. In addition, I would like to see the conservative blogosphere call attention to our candidates for office and work to drive volunteers and donations toward GOP candidates that are putting their name on the line to help build our party.
Why I'm Running from Justin Ready on Vimeo.
I'm running for House of Delegates to make sure that Carroll County remains a place where families can afford to live and businesses can thrive.
As a small business owner myself, I know the struggle that businesses and working families face just to pay the bills and save a few bucks for the future.
As your Delegate, I'll fight in Annapolis to:
  • Pass real tax relief for our families
  • Eliminate wasteful spending
  • Lighten the load on businesses
As Executive Director of Maryland Republican Party and while serving as staff in the House of Delegates and the State Senate, I fought to put authentic conservative principles into action in practical ways. I will work tirelessly to make a real difference for us in Annapolis.
I'm ready and respectfully, I ask for your vote in the September 14th Republican Primary. Join our campaign by signing up for email updates, making a donation, or following us on Facebook and Twitter.
Let's make Maryland a place where people want to live - not leave!
Sincerely,
Justin Ready
Dixon and City Democrats Get Raises While Contemplating Layoffs
Dixon and City Democrats Get Raises While Contemplating Layoffs
ANNAPOLIS—On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Mayor Sheila Dixon, City Council President Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, City Comptroller Joan Pratt and the 13 other City Council members had pay raises approved by the Baltimore City Board of Estimates, which all three of them sit on. The move was done without identifying the titles or names of those receiving a raise. This comes at a time when Mayor Dixon has not ruled out layoffs for city workers and revoked cost of living raises for middle managers.
“Once again, this is an example of Maryland Democrat leaders operating under a different set of rules than the rest of us,” said MDGOP Chairman Jim Pelura. “These raises amount to $26,250 which is a substantial amount of money to anyone who is not a big-government politician. Mayor Dixon is talking about laying off lower level city workers. I certainly think that $26,250 might save at least one job. Do as I say, not as I do is becoming a common stance in Baltimore City and the state of Maryland.”
“We need new leadership for Maryland that puts taxpayers, small businesses, and working families first. There are several leaders who have volunteered to take part in the furloughs for state employees. Mayor Dixon, Council President Rawlings-Blake, and Comptroller Pratt should follow suit and reject these pay raises,” concluded Pelura.
