February may be the shortest month of the year, but we've got a long list of ways to pass the time!  From our "Show Some Love Westminster" Facebook contest to the Foreign Film Festival, there is sure to be something for everyone.  It's never too cold downtown -- warm up with a daily special at one of our great restaurants, or grab a gift for your Valentine at one of our unique shops.  For more information about all that's hot and happening, be sure to "like" Downtown Westminster on Facebook by clicking here.



In recognition of Valentine's Day, the City of Westminster Recreation and Parks Department invites you to participate in the 2nd annual social media photo contest, Show Some Love Westminster. Submit photos of yourself, family and/or friends at places, events or things you LOVE about Westminster.
Photos can be submitted 2/1-2/14 at 5 PM. Online voting will take place from 2/16-2/26.
Winner announced on 2/27.
Submit photos by uploading to the #SSLWestminster event page, e-mailing photos toWestminsterRec@westgov.com or hash tagging your photo #SSLWestminster17.
5 favorites will be selected and posted on our Facebook page 2/16-2/26 until 11:59 PM. The winner will be announced on 2/27/16!
 

 The WINNER will receive $25 gift cards from 6 restaurants in the Downtown Westminster area. That's right, $150 of dining on us, 6 nights out on the town!

"Mustang" In a coastal town in northern Turkey, when five orphan girls are seen innocently playing with boys on a beach, their scandalized conservative guardians confine them while forced marriages are arranged.

"A Man Called Ove" Ove, an ill-tempered, isolated retiree who spends his days enforcing block association rules and visiting his wife's grave, has finally given up on life just as an unlikely friendship develops with his boisterous new neighbors.

"The Innocents" In 1945 Poland, a young French Red Cross doctor who is sent to assist the survivors of the German camps discovers several nuns in advanced stages of pregnancy during a visit to a nearby convent.
  
Friday, February 24th, 1:00 pm and 7:30 pm 
"Hunt for the Wilderpeople" A rebellious kid and his cranky foster father become the subjects of a manhunt after they get stranded in the New Zealand wilderness.

Tickets are $7 for Adults and $6 for CCAC Members, Students & Seniors.
The Festival is sponsored by McDaniel College and members of the McDaniel community are admitted free with an I.D.

Drawing from bluegrass, old-time, and Celtic musical backgrounds, the four members of Charm City Junction have found a common ground on which to develop their unique approach. Since releasing their highly anticipated debut album on Patuxent Music in the fall of 2015, Charm City Junction has performed at Grey Fox, The Kennedy Center, Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival, Strathmore Hall and they were an Official Showcase Band at the 2015 IBMA Convention. Charm City Junction is bluegrass fiddler Patrick McAvinue, clawhammer banjo player Brad Kolodner, Irish button accordion player Sean McComiskey, and bassist Alex Lacquement.
  
Cost: $25; $22 Seniors 65+, Teens 18 and younger.

The Long Walk of Warren Dorsey"

96-year-old Warren Dorsey, the grandson of a slave, grew up poor in Sykesville during the 1920s and '30s. Jack White will conduct a casual interview with Warren to discuss his slave grandmother, his parents, and the many challenges he overcame during his struggle to educate himself and escape poverty, as chronicled in Jack's book, In Carrie's Footprints.
