I think that I failed at baking this afternoon

I think that I failed at baking this afternoon. I was cleaning-out the pantry of some old baking mixes – and they did not turn-out so well. I might have to go outside and go hunting for nuts, twigs and berries for dinner. Maybe I will hunt down the cricket that is singing so loudly in the living room. Then again, maybe I'll take a nap. Getting old is such hard work. Wed., Sept. 28, 2016

After singing the national anthem between services at Grace Lutheran Church, the next stop for our Estonian dancers is a walking tour of Westminster on their way to the Paide Westminster sign located at the railroad tracks and Main Street in the hearty of historic downtown Westminster. Sun. July 3, 2016 DA CE #estonia

For the past week, June 27 – July 5, 2016, Westminster has hosted two groups of Estonian folk dancers, "Südameke" and "Keerutajad" from Westminster's sister city Paide, thanks, in part, to the hard work of CSM Thomas B. Beyard of the Md National Guard, Audrey Cimino and Jaclyn Mathias-Jones of the Community Foundation of Carroll Co., Aime and Jeff Pringle, and Mari Thalman among many others. Not to be overlooked are members of the Maryland National Guard, Sgt. Matthews Akiba, and Spc. Ronald Maddox for great help with logistics

The visitors include 26 young performers and 10 adults for a total of 36. Among the group are friends of mine, Indrek Kivimäe, a former mayor of Paide, and his wife Tiina, who directs the Paide Girls Choir. Both have visited Westminster before. Most notably Indrek visited us in June 2004 and made a presentation at the Md. Municipal League Convention.

In fact Indrek and Tiina helped host my trip to Estonia in Sept. 2004 when I served as the mayor of Westminster and visited Estonia as part of a diplomatic mission for the Md. National Guard and the U.S. State Department.

Grace Lutheran Church in Westminster, MD USA, welcomed the Trozzo Family to Sunday services last Sunday, June 26, 2016

Grace Lutheran Church in Westminster, MD USA, welcomed the Trozzo Family to Sunday services last Sunday, June 26, 2016

Pastor Eric and Pastor Wendolyn Trozzo and their sons, Dante and Caedmon are visiting with us this weekend. Pastors Eric and Wendolyn are ELCA missionaries stationed in Sabah, Malaysia.

Pastor Eric teaches at the Sabah Theological Seminary. Together they not only demonstrate the love of Jesus to the local people, but they help local Christians strengthen and grow their own witness.

We welcome the visit of the Trozzo family and appreciated their message and their leadership in the 9:00 & 10:30 worship services at Grace Lutheran Church

In his message Pastor Trozzo discussed a concept of several images of Martin Luther: He was a Christian who knew God's grace. He was a pastor who wanted to teach and share God's grace. He cared about the poor. And lastly, Martin Luther was a reformer.

Please join us in welcoming the Trozzo family to Westminster.

Wed. May 25, 2016 On the scene of a single vehicle tractor and trailer accident on Rte. 31 west of Westminster

Wed. May 25, 2016 - On the scene of a single vehicle tractor and trailer accident on Rte. 31 west of Westminster half-way between Windsor Drive and Tahoma Farm Road. http://kevindayhoff.blogspot.com/2016/05/wed-may-25-2016-on-scene-of-single.html

The first call came in for [Sta 3 Fire] at 01:02 am CT: VC RESCUE RT 31 / WINDSOR DR BOX: 0323 DUE: X37 E31 RS6. Units from the New Windsor, and Westminster Vol. Fire Departments, Maryland State Police, MDE, SHA, and Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded.

Upon arrival Westminster first responders discovered a single vehicle truck accident. A cement hauler was northbound when it left the road for unknown reasons. Although the driver walked-away from the accident and only sustained non-life threatening injuries, the driver was transported to Carroll Hospital for treatment and observation.

Firefighters remained on the scene until approximately 2:20 am. However heavy-wreckers remained several more hours removing the tractor and trailer from the scene of the accident. Rte. 31 remained closed for almost 4 hours.

The only reported injury was to the driver. There were no reports of any injuries among the first responders.

The accident remains under investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

Last night, Sat. April 30, 2016, Caroline and I really enjoyed the Historical Society of Carroll County Gala.

We joined Bernie Jones and his wife, and Charles and Virginia Harrison at our table. We danced the night away at one of the better benefit events we have attended in recent memory. We tip our cowboy hats to Historical Society for a wonderful evening and to Becky and Nick Herrick for being excellent hosts.

October 20, 2013: Carroll County firefighters respond to fire at Vetville in Westminster

October 20, 2013: Carroll County firefighters respond to fire at Vetville in Westminster http://kevindayhoffwestgov-net.blogspot.com/2013/10/october-20-2013-carroll-county.html

By Kevin E. Dayhoff, kevindayhoff@gmail.com Sunday, October 20, 2013

Carroll County volunteer firefighters from throughout the county responded Sunday afternoon to a laundry room fire at “Vetville” in the 100 unit block of Wimert Avenue, near Sullivan Avenue and Route 140 in northwest Westminster.

The complex, known locally as “Vetville,” dates back to 1946, when the housing units were built “by the government for the GIs who are attending or will attend Western Maryland College under the GI Bill of Rights,” according to a newspaper account in the now-defunct Democratic Advocate.

“A one-story construction, set up on cement blocks, with a brick-like celetex finish, they will fill the hopes of many GIs who plan to finish their education with their families. The apartments are made up of living room, two bedrooms, two closets and a kitchen, to be fully equipped with sink, stove and refrigerator…”

It is believed that the last fire occurred in Vetville on November 2, 2003, when, “A two-alarm fire … destroyed a four-unit apartment building in Westminster, but its eight residents, including two children, escaped without injuries,” according to an article in the Baltimore Sun.
