96-year-old Warren Dorsey, the grandson of a slave, grew up poor in Sykesville during the 1920s and '30s. Please read my story about Warren Dorsey, “Time Flies: Warren Dorsey to speak at Historical Society Box Lunch Talk on Feb. 21,” by Kevin Dayhoff.

Mr. Dorsey is an amazing man. Kristin Marie Spurrier, missing since February 4th, 2017, was located deceased

10:59 P.M. Monday, Feb. 20, 2017

Incredibly sad: According to the Carroll County Sheriff's office: "Westminster, Carroll County, Maryland; February 20th, 2017 -----  The Carroll County Sheriff's Office is saddened to report that Kristin Marie Spurrier, who had been missing since February 4th, 2017, was located deceased in her vehicle earlier this afternoon.

February 19, 1971 Community Reporter, YMCA FORMULATING PLANS TO CONDUCT SUMMER DAY CAMP

YMCA FORMULATING PLANS TO CONDUCT SUMMER DAY CAMP

February 19, 1971 Community Reporter

The Carroll County YMCA Program Committee, under the direction of W. Norris Weis, has begun to formulate plans for its summer day camp.

The 1971 season has been extended to four two-week sessions covering an eight week period. The sessions are scheduled to begin on June 28, July 12, July 26, and August 9.

Presently the committee is in the process of securing the staff to include the director, four senior counselors, and four counselors in training. Interested persons may apply at the YMCA office at 117 E. Main St., Westminster.

Additions to this year's camping staff, which will improve the programmed activities, are a program coordinator and possibly a foreign counselor.

Scheduled events will include aquatics, nature and camp craft, arts and crafts, sports, and special theme days.

Both boys and girls ages 6 to 14 are eligible to be enrolled as campers. Transportation will again be provided at key pick-up points throughout the county for the convenience of the campers. Scholarships are being sought so that the underprivileged youths of the area can take advantage of the opportunity of having a day camp experience.

Community Reporter, February 19, 1971.

Sunday church service at Grace Lutheran Church. 19Feb2017

Sunday church service at Grace Lutheran Church. 19Feb2017 These days, pastors are about as apprehensive as a long-tailed cat in a  room full of rocking chairs. "But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." Matthew 5:44 In a time if high anxiety, we are called upon to be the facilitators of reconciliation. God works through us to bring healing and reconciliation to a broken world. well, anyway, that's what I heard and I am sticking with it. Just saying.

Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh has reservations about raising the minimum wage – by Luke Broadwater Feb. 8, 2017

Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh has reservations about raising the minimum wage – by Luke Broadwater Feb. 8, 2017

Pugh says $15 minimum wage could force her Baltimore small business to close more often – by Luke Broadwater Feb. 8, 2017 http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/baltimore-city/politics/bs-md-ci-pugh-minimum-wage-20170208-story.html

Mayor Catherine Pugh on Wednesday expressed strong reservations about a bill mandating Baltimore businesses pay a $15 minimum wage by 2022.

Pugh, a small business owner, said the bill being considered by the City Council could cause her consignment shop to close an extra day per week.

"People can't afford to pay these kind of wages," Pugh said of the council's proposal. "What would I do as a small business? Close my store another day. Just can't afford it."

Pugh and her business partners, including Baltimore Comptroller Joan M. Pratt, own 2 Chic Boutique in Pigtown, a consignment shop that sells designer clothes.

She urged the City Council to fully consider the bill's ramifications on jobs in Baltimore. During her campaign, Pugh told a local union she would sign a $15 minimum wage bill. She did not say Wednesday that she would veto the bill, but urged caution.
