Our Founders - Retired Carroll County Public School
educators, Bill and Anne McKenna, have been married 53 years. They have
four children and 12 grandchildren. Bill spent over 30 years teaching,
coaching, and as an athletic director. The McKennas are certified in multiple
marriage education programs. They started their work in marriage education by developing a marriage ministry in their local church. As the word spread to other
churches, they decided, with the encouragement of the local ministerium, to form

Lonely is the runner that runs two miles staring at a red ball on the floor. So what happened to spring? I actually like walking and running on treadmill at the fire station, but I guess I miss the Wakefield Valley Trail. I like listening to the music at 11, but prefer the outdoor scenery.

At Birdie’s in Westminster
At Birdie's in Westminster, enjoying a great cup of coffee, some me-time, and the current art exhibition, "Three Words," by Gerard Lonesome and Eleanor Tatreaux.
It is really a fun show. Do not miss it.
"THREE WORDS:" Works by Gerard Lonesome and Eleanor Tatreaux
"Gerard and Eleanore are twins from the planet Zebulon. Their art was delivered to us by courier pigeon several months ago. In their letter to us they stated that they telephonically thought of three words to create each one of their works, thus the show name, 'Three Words.'"
"They will travel to earth in light years to collect the money made from sales of this show in order to fund the takeover of planet Earth. Until such time, however, they will allow the Earthlings to use the profits from this show to fund the first ever Pride Festival in Westminster, Maryland.
"Gerard was educated at the finest art institute on Zebulon and Eleanore is a self-taught savant.
"Enjoy the show, it maybe your last, Earthling."

Increased Law Enforcement in Carroll Co. Public Schools Effective Wed., March 21, 2018
Increased Law Enforcement in Carroll Co. Public
Schools Effective Wed., March 21, 2018
March 20, 2018
According to a recent joint release by
the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Carroll County Public Schools: “In a
partnership with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and the Carroll County
Public Schools, the Carroll County Commissioners will fund an increased law
enforcement presence in schools.
“Effective Wednesday, March 21, 2018,
the Security Plan places Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputies at various schools
throughout the county.
“These uniformed Deputies will not only
interact with the students and faculty, but also act as a visible deterrent to
any criminal activity. This Security Plan will improve safety and security
for the remainder of this school year, while discussions on the feasibility of
staffing a full School Resource Officer program can be explored.
“’The Board of Carroll County
Commissioners believes adding the increased law enforcement presence will have
a positive impact on school security and will benefit our entire school system,’
stated Board President Commissioner Dennis Frazier, ‘This investment assures
the Carroll County community we are committed to a proactive approach to a safe
and secure learning environment.’”
“According to Superintendent of Schools
Stephen Guthrie, ‘We are thankful to the Carroll County Commissioners and the
Sheriff for making safety in our schools a top priority.’”

Firefighters quick to extinguish flames in Westminster house fire
Catalina Righter http://www.carrollcountytimes.com/news/local/cc-spring-meadow-fire-20180322-story.html
A Westminster home was damaged following a fire Thursday
evening.
The call for service went out just after 6 p.m., and
firefighters from Westminster, Reese, New Windsor, and Pleasant Valley
companies responded to the residence in the 600 block of Spring Meadow Drive.
Upon arrival, responders observed smoke showing from the
single-family dwelling, according to Kevin Dayhoff, spokesman and chaplain for
the Westminster Volunteer Fire Department.
Westminster initiated an interior attack, and the fire was
immediately extinguished, he said. Significant damage to the structure was
observed.
No injuries were reported. Family is assisting the displaced
occupants.
The incident remains under investigation by the Office of
the State Fire Marshal.
The Westminster Volunteer Fire Department asks that
residents take special care with fire safety.

Bowman family awarded annual Ag Center Pioneer Award
A year ago, I wrote - Time Flies “Bowman family awarded
annual Ag Center Pioneer Award” by Kevin Dayhoff February 24, 2017
Romantic that I am, I took my wife out on Valentine's Day,
Feb. 14, to the annual Carroll County Agriculture Center dinner. Since 1993,
the annual dinner has been used as an opportunity to honor individuals and
businesses with the "Pioneer Award," in recognition for longstanding
service to the Carroll County agriculture community and the Agriculture Center,
This year's award went to the R.D. Bowman family, which has
been a cornerstone of the agricultural community through the family businesses
that date back to 1928. Dirk Bowman and his wife Julie attended the dinner to
receive the award on behalf of the family.
Dirk, his brother Dale, and his sister Dawn DeVivo are the
third-generation owners of the Westminster feed sales business, R.D. Bowman
& Sons Inc., and the Home & Garden Center, which opened in 1981.
According to a March 24, 1993 article in The Baltimore Sun
by writers Ellie Baublitz and Tom Keyser, "In 1928, Ralph Dutterer Bowman
bought a little country grocery store in Union Mills on a dirt road that is now
Route 97, or Littlestown Pike. He operated the store for more than 30 years,
during which time the big event was the Friday night banana auction.
