Mrs. Nancy Lee Anania December 21, 1933 - May 19, 2018
Nancy Lee Anania, age 84, died on May 19, 2018 at her home in Ellicott City, MD. She was the daughter of the late Lawrence Eugene Mulcahy and Eva May Leister Mulcahy. Nancy was the wife of the late Peter V. Anania, Sr., her husband of 63 years.
Nancy was a loving mother who raised four sons. A gifted artist, she took joy in painting, crafts such as making dollhouses, wreaths, and holiday decorations, sewing as well as designing landscapes and interiors. She enjoyed listening to all kinds of music, from opera to rock. She had a beautiful voice and got a kick out of singing with her sons in their garage band. Her favorite artist was opera singer Luciano Pavarotti.
Nancy was a lover of life and learning, and an avid history buff. She enjoyed colonial Jamestown in particular. She was fond of art museums and seeing her old neighborhood in Hamden where she grew up.
Nancy’s biggest passion was her family. She was a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Anyone who walked through her door would be welcome and would never leave hungry. Her kitchen stayed open 24 hours, her holiday celebrations were legendary, and she went out of her way to make every gathering unforgettable.
Nancy is survived by her sons, Peter V. Anania, Jr., David S. Anania, and his wife Barbara Anania, Andrew J. Anania, grandchildren Elizabeth Anania, Ashen Anania, Robin Harlan, and Tara Anania, and great grandchildren Dayja, Lily, Ella, Chloe, and Destiny. She was predeceased by her husband Peter V. Anania, Sr. and her son, Thomas S. Anania.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 5 to 7pm. at Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Rd., Sykesville .A Funeral service will follow at 7:00pm.

“Fires captured the attention of the local newspapers in
April many years ago. The American Sentinel reported on April 9, 1898 that a
“large coal oil lamp, suspended from the ceiling of the office of Dr. John S.

caught fire…”

Women Who Know Their Place
Women Who Know Their Place
Happy Monday - - The Monday morning thought of the day to
get the week started-out correctly. This was shared with me by way of an email
by a very wise women in our community. 7May2018 https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10213833935216141&set=a.10203968656950350.1073741840.1040426835&type=3&theater
Women Who Know Their Place
Barbara Walters did a story on gender roles in Kabul,
Afghanistan, several years before our involvement in the Afghan conflict.
She noted that women customarily walked five paces behind
their husbands.
She recently returned to Kabul and observed that women still
walk behind their husbands. Despite the overthrow of the oppressive Taliban regime,
the women now seem to and are happy to, maintain the old custom.
Ms. Walters approached one of the Afghani women and asked,
"Why do you now seem happy with an old custom that you once tried so
desperately to change?"
The woman looked Ms. Walters straight in the eyes, and
without hesitation said, "Land Mines."
No matter what language you speak or where you go,
Moral of this story is:
BEHIND EVERY MAN, THERE'S A REALLY SMART WOMAN.

“I debated for a second on who to send the e-mail to. I
decided to send it directly to Sheriff Jim DeWees. Thinking it would turn out
the way the Florida efforts did, I didn’t expect much, especially being I’m not
even the parent, I’m just a concerned friend of the family. Within thirty
minutes of the e-mail, Cpl. Jeremy Holland contacted me. When my phone rang, I
started tearing up the second he said who he was. For the first time I felt like
the right people were in my friend’s corner. After our conversation he
contacted both my friend and her husband….”

Maryland State Police are
investigating an incident at the Carroll County Regional Airport that resulted
in a plane coming off of the runway, Cpl. Jordan Snedeker confirmed Thursday
night.
At 8:21 p.m., the emergency communications center was
alerted to a “small plane crash,” Westminster Volunteer Fire Company public
information officer Kevin Dayhoff said. Multiple units from Westminster
responded, he said.
Upon arrival, they located a small plane off of the runway
and occupants were out of the plane, Dayhoff said.
There were no injuries, he added.
At about 9:10 p.m., Snedeker said police believe
something happened while the plane was landing, causing it to come off the
runway and into the grass. Police don’t yet know the type of plane or how many
people were inside, Snedeker said.
Maryland State Police will be investigating to find out what
happened and what caused the incident, he said.

Westminster Fire Department responds to a serious motor
vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 140 and Englar Road that snarled
traffic for several hours Saturday
April 21, 2018 by Westminster Fire Department PIO and
Chaplain Kevin Dayhoff
A serious motor vehicle accident at the intersection of
Route 140 and Englar Road snarled traffic for several hours Saturday evening
just outside of Westminster.
On Sat., April 21, 2018, at approximately 8:30 in the
evening, units from the Westminster Fire Department, Westminster City Police,
and the Maryland State Police responded to a call for a two-vehicle head-on
vehicle collision at the intersection of Englar Road and Route 140 – Baltimore
Blvd.
Emergency units responded quickly to the scene. Upon arrival,
Westminster Fire Department Lt. Guy Garheart found a two-vehicle motor vehicle
accident in the middle of the intersection. A Taneytown police officer on his
way to work had happened upon the scene and was assisting the response.
Although there was significant property damage to both vehicles, fortunately
no-one was injured seriously in the accident.
And fortunately, no first responders - police officers, EMS
providers or firefighters were hurt. This, in spite of a series of several
serious incidents in which drivers drove around the cones and flares at traffic
control points – and through the accident scene, in order to hasten their
travels - directly endangering the lives of the first responders.
The accident remains under investigation.

This week the Middletown United Methodist Church begins a sermon series, "A place called home." www.mtownumc.org @MTownUMC 8Apr2018 I always appreciate a Biblically-focused message. The touchstone of Pastor Sarah Dorrance's sermon today touched upon the Gospel lesson from John 20, Romans 8 … The book of Psalms... I learned new things and had other lessons from the past reinforced.

Lonely is the runner that runs two miles staring at a red ball on the floor
Lonely is the runner that runs two miles staring at a red ball on the floor. So what happened to spring? I actually like walking and running on treadmill at the fire station, but I guess I miss the Wakefield Valley Trail. I like listening to the music at 11, but prefer the outdoor scenery.

At Birdie’s in Westminster
At Birdie's in Westminster, enjoying a great cup of coffee, some me-time, and the current art exhibition, "Three Words," by Gerard Lonesome and Eleanor Tatreaux.
It is really a fun show. Do not miss it.
"THREE WORDS:" Works by Gerard Lonesome and Eleanor Tatreaux
"Gerard and Eleanore are twins from the planet Zebulon. Their art was delivered to us by courier pigeon several months ago. In their letter to us they stated that they telephonically thought of three words to create each one of their works, thus the show name, 'Three Words.'"
"They will travel to earth in light years to collect the money made from sales of this show in order to fund the takeover of planet Earth. Until such time, however, they will allow the Earthlings to use the profits from this show to fund the first ever Pride Festival in Westminster, Maryland.
"Gerard was educated at the finest art institute on Zebulon and Eleanore is a self-taught savant.
"Enjoy the show, it maybe your last, Earthling."
