C. Richard “Dick” Fox, age 82, of Westminster, Md., died May 18, 2015


C. Richard “Dick” Fox, age 82, of Westminster, Maryland, died peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2015 at the Carroll Hospital Center.

Born December 24, 1932 in New Windsor, Maryland, he was the son of the late Russell S. and Mary E. (Cartzendafner) Fox.  He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Darthean Duvall Fox.

Dick attended Otterdale Mill one room school and was taught by Mr. Joe Langdon.  He served for several months with the U.S. Navy, before being medically discharged. 

He was an active member of St. Luke’s (Winter’s) Lutheran Church in New Windsor.  For over 27 years he worked with fire equipment sales and service for Howe, Oren, & Grummen Co. in the Maryland area. 

He was a life member of Reisterstown and New Windsor Volunteer Fire Company, honorary member of Singerly Fire Co. in Elkton, and the first paid Engineer for Reisterstown Vol. Fire Company 1957-68. 

He was a 4-H All Star for Baltimore Co. 1951, and member of the MD State 4-H All Stars of Baltimore and Carroll Counties. Dick won several National Awards at the 4-H Congress held in Chicago in the early 1950’s. 

He was a life member of the MD State Fire Chief’s Association, served on numerous committees of the MD State Fireman’s Association, Past-President of the CAFAA, Chesapeake Antique Fire Apparatus Association, life member of SPAAMFAA, National Antique Fire Apparatus Association. 

Upon retirement, he delivered pharmacy drugs to homes and businesses from 1998-2008 for Rexall Pharmacy in Westminster.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are sister, Shirley Fox Cox of Reisterstown; brothers, F. James Fox and wife Mary of Falcon, Colorado, and Marvin B. Fox and wife Libby of Parkville; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; nephew, Byron Welker and wife Cindy and sons Ray and Joe of New Windsor …

Extended family and close friends, Billy and Becky Stem and son Chet of Westminster, Jeff Bangerd and family of Westminster, Dan and Tina Hoff and family of Westminster, Gary and Carrah Holmes and family of Taneytown, Jeannie and Larry Myers of Westminster.

He was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Joyce Welker on the same day May 18, 1985.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s (Winters) Lutheran Church, 701 Green Valley Rd., New Windsor with his pastor the Rev. Anne C. Durboraw officiating and his nephew the Rev. Virgil Cain and Deacon Charles E. Barnhart, Jr. co-officiating. 

Burial will follow in the St. Luke’s (Winter’s) Lutheran Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, with a joint Reisterstown & New Windsor Vol. Fire Co. Memorial Service at 8 p.m.  Friends may also call 1 hr. prior to the service at the church.
