Gertrude M. “Trudy” Hirt of Westminster died Saturday, May 23, 2015

Gertrude M. “Trudy” Hirt of Westminster died Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Fairhaven. Born May 18, 1921 in Baltimore she was the daughter of Harry Dittmar and Anna Waltz Dittmar. Her husband Rodney Edmund Hirt died June 23, 2002.

After graduating from high school she went to cosmetology school in Baltimore. During the war she worked at Martin Marietta as a Rosie the Riveter. She retired from the Social Security Administration.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and was a member of the Adult Sunday Morning Bible Class and former member of the Sunshiners. She and her late husband were the founders of Hirt Tree Farm. She enjoyed gardening and cooking.

Survived by daughter and son-in-law Patricia A. Hirt and John Tam of Ellicott City, son and daughter-in-law Clyde R. Hirt and Cynthia Rainey Hirt of Westminster, two sisters Lillian O’Neill of Taneytown and Betty Lou Chenoweth of Parkville, three grandchildren Melinda H. Vollmer and husband John of Catonsville, Mathew N. Hirt and fiancé Claire Regan of Westminster and Jennifer Tam of Ellicott City.

The family will receive friends at Fletcher Funeral and Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St, Westminster, Thursday, May 28, 2015 from 6-8 PM.

Memorial services will be on May 30, 2015 at 12:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church, 21 Carroll St, Westminster, with her Pastor Rev. Kevin Clementson officiating. Interment Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.
